Setelah mendownload XAMPP, install sampai selesai, kemudian buka XAMPP Control Panel. Ada lima service dasar yang disediakan oleh XAMPP : Apache, MySQL, Filezilla, Mercury, Tomcat. Seperti yang telah saya jelaskan sebelumnya, kita membutuhkan Apache dan MySQL Server untuk mulai mempelajari pemrograman server. Program dari Apache dan MySql tersebut nantinya akan dikirimkan ke client untuk menghasilkan program HTML, javascript, CSS, dan bahasa pemrograman client lainnya. Maka, kita langsung saja start service Apache dan MySQL di aplikasi XAMPP yang telah kita jalankan, hingga keduanya berwarna hijau seperti gambar di bawah ini.

- Buka browser Anda, ketik localhost di url, kemudian tekan Enter.
- Welcome page Apache akan muncul di halaman browser Anda.
- Sekarang buka Windows Explorer, kemudian buka folder htdocs di dalam folder XAMPP yang telah kita install. Pada komputer saya, foldernya adalah “D:/xampp/htdocs”.
- Buat folder baru di dalam htdocs, namakan folder tersebut dengan “firstcode”.
- Buat file baru di dalam folder firstcode bernama index.php
- Buka index.php menggunakan notepad, lalu ketik kode berikut :
